For those of you who have never heard of the awesome holiday that is Galentine’s Day, it all started from an episode called (you guessed it) “Galentine’s Day” on the show Parks and Recreation where leading lady Leslie Knope designates February 13th as the day to celebrate with all of your lady friends.
Of course, it’s up to you when to celebrate, but we have a few ideas for you on how to spend the holiday of love with your BFFs.
1. Where to Shop
While cliche in nature, there’s a reason why girlfriends enjoy shopping together. They can help you pick things out, give you inspiration and of course, a good friend is always honest about something you try on. With a full day of celebration ahead, we suggest a one-stop-shop. The Canal Street Market has a “carefully curated retail market & food hall” with jewelry, athleisure wear, furniture, drinks, art and so much more while all supporting local vendors in the process.
2. Where to Eat
What better way to spend a girl’s night than treating yourselves with delicious, fancy food. Most restaurants have pre-fixed menus for the holiday so make reservations at a place where everyone’s palate will be satisfied. Try NoMo Kitchen inside the stylish NoMo SoHo Hotel. With a Valentine’s menu listed with items such as striped bass and red velvet cake, everyone’s food craving will be surely fulfilled.
3. Where to See
It’s award season! Meaning, we have a ton of catching up to do in the film department. If you happen to finish shopping early, stop by the Angelika Film Center where they have several of the Oscar nominated films like Moonlight, Lion and Manchester by the Sea. Watching a movie and eating popcorn with your girlfriends will give you all the sleepover feels.
4. Where to Drink
Sometime’s the most fun places are the ones with the most character. If you’re not wanting to go too far from the restaurant, love affordable drinks and a divey feel then we suggest visiting Botanica Bar in the SoHo/Nolita area. With fun music and great happy hour specials, it’s the best place for a girl’s night out. One Yelper said that it was, “the perfect combo to chat with friends or to bust a move.” Told you. Perfect girl’s night out spot!
5. Where to Visit
One of the best parts of New York is being surrounded by all of the art and culture that the city has to offer. It’s a fun thing to experience with friends that can stir up less than usual conversation. Check out the hip and trendy Team Gallery, which is known for its provoking and “crowd-pleasing” art installations. Plus, once again, it’s not too far from the rest of our Galentine’s itinerary.
